Mirna Mattjik
Teaching Associate Professor, Engineering, Design, & Society

Dr. Mirna Mattjik is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Engineering, Design, and Society Department and the Director of the Grand Challenges Scholars Program. She primarily teaches first- and second-year engineering design and is also an affiliate faculty member in the University Honors and Scholars Program.
Mirna’s academic background spans industrial technology, international political economy, project management, and leadership, with prior industry experiences in oil and gas and telecommunications. She holds a doctorate in educational equity in higher education.
As a teaching faculty, Mirna is committed to advancing student learning through high-impact practices and broadening participation in innovation. She is dedicated to creating equitable learning opportunities and designing environments that foster students’ sense of belonging at Mines. In the classroom, she emphasizes intrinsic motivation by modeling authenticity in both teaching and learning.
